Thanksgiving. The holiday where I get to stuff my face silly!

Happy belated Thanksgiving everyone! Thankgiving is one of my favorite holidays because I get to eat a lot of food. And I love food. A lot. Food is awesome. I like to eat food. On Thanksgiving, I get to stuff my face silly!

Since my parents are divorced, I get to have TWO Thanksgiving dinners! Two times the food! I had my first Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving at my mom’s house. When I woke up that morning (which was early…like 8am.) I watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which I do every year. I’m not a fan of the lip synching, but I still like to see the floats and balloons, and of course, Santa. I helped out in the kitchen after–I made the mashed potatoes–and then, a few hours later, with a stomach growling with hunger, I sat down and ate with my sisters, mom, and Memere. I had turkey, stuffing, carrots, green beans, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with marshmellows, and apple pie. YUMMY. My Aunt Lulu then came over (she had been at her son’s house for Thanksgiving), and her, my mom, my Memere, and I played the most hilarious game of Pictionary EVER. My Aunt Lulu and Memere couldn’t draw if their life depended on it, and they couldn’t really guess either. After an hour we weren’t even a quarter-way done with the game. So we gave up.

Last night I had my second Thanksgiving dinner. My dad, sisters, and I came up to Connecticut Friday to have our dinner at my dad’s girlfriend’s house. Her brother and his family came from NYC Saturday morning, and we all had dinner in the afternoon. I had turkey, sweet potatoes, stuffing, pasta with walnut sauce, broccoli cassarole, and tiramisu. YUMMY. We all then played Apples to Apples, one of the best games ever invented. It’s always fun to play with ten people.

Anyways, that was my Thanksgiving weekend. Tomorrow, I’m going back to school (extremely sad face). But, that means one month until the end of the semester! And then I have a one month break!

So, I guess I’ll end this post with what I’m thankful for, not only on Thankgiving, but every day. I’m thankful for my family, my friends, the love I get from each and every one of them, my cats, Amber (RIP). I’m thankful that my mom now has a great job, and slowly, but surely, we are getting out of the financial funk we were in. I’m thankful that I am able to travel to Italy to see my family there, let alone, travel at all, because many people my age aren’t able to. I’m thankful for my doctors, who have helped me for many years and I owe everything to. I’m thankful for being able to have an amazing education, when others aren’t so lucky. I’m thankful that I have rights, like the right to vote. I’m thankful that this country will be moving FORWARD. I’m thankful for J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter, without which I would probably be heading in a different direction with my life. I’m thankful for technology, because without it, I wouldn’t be able to write these posts for you!!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Last night at URI I saw Joseph Gordon-Levitt for his Hit RECord Mini-Tour. I wan’t able to meet him (sad face) but it was still awesome to be so close to him. He may not be your stereotypical hot actor (like Channing Tatum, Ryan Gosling, the like…), but to me, he is HOT.

He talked about his website, http://www.hitrecord.org, which is where people can post songs, movies, photos, stories, etc. that they’ve created, and even callaborate with other users on the site. We were able to see many things that users have created, and I’ve got to say, all of them were amazing. So, here are some photos (which aren’t that good…the iPhone 3 camera sucks), but, nevertheless, it’s freaking JOSEPH-GORDON-LEVITT, so who cares?

A feminist critique of Twilight: emotional abuse, child-grooming, and pro-choice plots..

I suggest reading it. It’s 100% true. I’ve even said some of these things to my friends who are Twilight fans and don’t understand how bad they really are. Love story my ass. Twilight is a twisted, horrible tragedy.

Mommy…Guess what I wanna be when I grow up?

So, in my first post, I said I would talk about Harry Potter a lot. However, in this post, I am talking about Harry Potter in a way you wouldn’t expect. I am an enormous fan, but I’ll save my obsessive ranting for another post.

When children are asked what they want to be when they grow up, it can range from an astronaut to a fairy princess. They change their minds continuously because, well, they are children, and they are full of imagination. Whatever is awesome or cool for them that day, is what they want to be. I, on the other hand, wasn’t that kind of kid. I wasn’t normal like that. I didn’t change my mind often. In fact, I never changed my mind about what I wanted to be when I grew up at all.

When I was seven years old, I was introduced to Harry Potter. My mom had bought me the book so I could read it before the movie came out. That was her rule–if a movie you want to see is adapted from a book, you need to read it first before seeing  the movie. I immediately fell in love with the books. J.K Rowling’s writing is what inspired me to choose my career at such a young age, and continue with it. I, Isabel, want to be an author. I have been writing stories since elementary school, although the ones I’ve written recently are a whole lot better.

I am working on a new story right now, and maybe, at some point, will begin posting chapters. That might not happen for a while, though.

Writing is my passion, and I plan on doing it for the rest of my life. I just declared a double major in English and Elementary Education, so my plans as of now is to become a teacher, and write on the side. That gives me a more secure financial foundation, while still doing something I enjoy.

Is there anything that inspired you to choose what you want to do when you grow up (or what you are doing now)? You can answer down below in the comments. Adieu!

Saturday Will Be The Day Where I Meet My First Celebrity

Yes. I have never met anyone famous in my life. It’s crazy, I know. My mother…she’s literally a celebrity magnet. She’s met John Legend, Jimmy Smits, and most importantly (at least, to me…), Emma Watson. But Saturday will be the day where I meet MY first celebrity, and as much as I would have liked it to be Emma Watson, it will not. Saturday, I will be meeting…wait for it…JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT!!!

He is coming to URI (where I go to school) that night for his Hit Record Mini Tour, and I am going to see him. I am hoping to have some interaction with him, but to just be in the same room as him makes my heartbeat quicken. I am EXTREMELY excited! I will write a post about it either Sunday or early next week, so stay tuned!

And just in case you aren’t sure of who he is (Which is ridiculous. Seriously, come out from under that rock), here are some of the movies he’s been in:

-Inception

-500 Days of Summer

-50/50

-The Dark Knight Rises

Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do!

Other than my title being part of a wonderful song from the The Sound of Music, it also stands for my love of music. Now, to clear this up, I like to sing along to songs, but I am not a natural born singer. However, I am very good with music, and have a very good ear–therefore I can stay on tune, or play the melody of a song on the piano by memory. I get my musical talent and appreciation from my mother, who is a former opera singer. Nevertheless, I am not building a career out of music. I am an aspiring author, but, you never know…I could end up also writing song lyrics sometime in my life.

I like a whole slew of different kinds of music. The only “music” I can’t stand at all is metal/screamo. It gives me a headache, and screaming is not “music” in my mind. I DO like country, rock, pop, rap, R&B, jazz, classical, acapella, latin, and many more genres. My favorites, however, are country and rock.

Tomorrow, I am going to see Carrie Underwood with a friend in Hartford, CT (my second time seeing her live!), and I am extremely excited. Carrie Underwood is my favorite country artist, as well as my favorite singer. I did not watch American Idol when she was on it, but when she released her first few singles after winning, I became an instant fan. Ever since listening to Carrie Underwood, I have loved country music. Beforehand, I wasn’t a fan. I used to not be fans of a lot of kinds of music, but now I have a much wider taste of music. In Rhode Island, where I live, country isn’t a popular genre. Many people dislike it, which I think is absurd. Other favorites of mine in the country genre are Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley, Lady Antebellum, Kenny Chesney, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, Tim McGraw, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean…I could go on forever, really. But I won’t.

My other favorite genre, rock, is also something I’ve been warming up to. I used to only listen to rock from the most recent years: Green Day, Muse, and Coldplay. Now, I listen to rock bands from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s. My taste of music actually goes back to the 1920s (with Frank Sinatra). I listen to The Beatles, Queen, Journey, Aerosmith, Poison, Joan Jett, and much more.

New bands and singers I have gotten into are One Night Only (indie rock band from the UK), Imagine Dragons, Ed Sheeran, and more.

Here is my playlist on Spotify, if you would like to listen to it! The majority of the songs are those that aren’t on my iPod, but I want them to be. I only have an 8GB iPhone right now, and it doesn’t fit as much as I’d like! I will be getting an upgrade early next year though…I can’t wait to have more space!

If anyone wants to comment with songs or artists you think I’d like, feel free to! I love to be introduced to new music!
